About

Some people document the world. I try to make it make sense.

Geoffrey Dunn. Photographer, designer, creative director. Canberra, Australia.

Black and white portrait of Geoffrey Dunn, smiling, with tousled grey hair.

It started with the visual. I was taking photographs long before anyone paid me to, right through a career in science turning national environmental data into reports people could actually see and understand. Music, design and creative direction came after, and eventually photography became the job. Thirty-five years on, it’s still the same job: making the invisible visible, making the complicated feel clear.

That instinct is what Dunn Creative is built on: photography, art direction and design, under one roof. No matter the vision, the question is always the same: how do we want this to feel, and how do we make it beautiful?

Fifteen years as a semi-professional musician means musicians trust me with their visual story. I’m not an outsider to that world. I know what it’s like to care intensely about something you’ve made and need someone else to understand it.

I’ve photographed federal parliamentarians for the official AUSPIC archive. I’ve had a portrait selected for the National Portrait Gallery’s touring exhibition Dancer. I’ve designed album covers, run workshops, mentored photographers, and represented Australia at international scientific forums.

None of that was planned. It’s just what happens when you follow the work seriously for long enough.
